One of the most fascinating parts of my work as a speaker isn’t the facts I share — it’s figuring out, often within just a few minutes, where my participants are coming from in terms of background knowledge and connection to #Israel.
In any given workshop, I might be speaking to someone with a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies, sitting right next to someone visiting Israel for the very first time, with only minimal exposure to the topic. That range of perspectives is what makes every session so dynamic — and so challenging.
Recently, I led a workshop for a group made up mostly of participants from the U.S., with a few from Canada. You might think that would make it simpler, but I’ve come to realize how much the specific communities they come from — and even the geographic regions within North America — shape their viewpoints, expectations, and knowledge levels.
And all of this unfolds in just 90 minutes.
That’s the real challenge: creating something meaningful and engaging for everyone in such a short time frame. But it’s also what keeps this work so exciting. No two #workshops are ever the same !
